The Content

Session 1 - Steve Said: "I have a dream!"

So begins one of history's greatest speeches by Martin Luther King Jnr. The speech galvanized the American Civil Rights movement in the 60's and saw a nation, and a world changed forever.

What most people don't know is that this speech was rooted in the greater biblical narrative that defined who the Jews were called to be and do. From the very beginning God had a dream. He called the Israelites to embody that dream and to become the answer to all the worlds needs.

This workshop will explore the fact that missional thinking is not some new fangled concept, but rather a way deeply rooted in the greater biblical narrative.

Session 2 - Steve Said: "Jesus Made Me Do It!"

"God created man in His own image and man has been returning the favour ever since."

Jesus should be at the heart of all of our attempts at mission. But what if the Jesus we believe in is not the real one? What if our culture, and indeed our church tradition have made him something that he is not? What if, God forbid, we have domesticated Jesus and truncated his radical Gospel of grace?

Drawing on recent scholarship, this workshop will examine how our frameworks for understanding Jesus either impair of enhance our capacity to engage in the mission of God, as well as suggesting some tools for the missional leader to form communities of faith around the God_Man who has inspired fear and wonder in countless hearts throughout the centuries.

Session 3 - Scott Vawser: The Joondalup Thing

Scott will share the story of how the new Joondalup project emerged and what they have learnt along the way.

Session 4 - Steve Said: "They Sold Everything They Had"

The primitive church did not begin from scratch. Building upon centuries of narrative, they saw themselves as the historical climax of God's great composition, a work that would result in the transformation of the created order, and the gospel as their invitation to participate with their master's great work.

This workshop will explore the early church's understanding of themselves, and their attempts to participate in God's redemptive process, and will suggest some tools for those seeking to form communities of faith, in "latter days".
